Have you ever walked past a building and felt a surge of history? That’s exactly how I felt standing before Malapoa College. This isn’t just any school. It’s a cornerstone of Vanuatu’s educational landscape.

Malapoa College. Established in 1966 it began as the British Secondary School. Originally serving the children of government employees and expatriates it has blossomed into something much more.

The college played a pivotal role in Vanuatu’s journey to independence. Four of Vanuatu’s Prime Ministers are Malapoa alumni. Scores of national leaders walked these very halls. Think about that. The very ground beneath your feet has witnessed the shaping of a nation.

Malapoa College isn’t simply about academics. It’s a vibrant community. In 2016 it boasted 755 students. The sheer scale is impressive. But it’s the stories whispered within these walls that truly matter.

In 2018 a new campus opened. A 1.2 billion Vatu investment a testament to Malapoa’s importance. This impressive complex features modern facilities. Three classroom buildings two science buildings a library and even a residential area for students. Imagine the bustling hallways the sounds of lessons and laughter. The scent of textbooks and distant cooking.

The new Malapoa College is a symbol of progress. It reflects Vanuatu’s commitment to education and its future. This wasn’t just a building project. It was an investment in the minds of tomorrow. The Chinese government’s funding highlights the international recognition of Malapoa’s significance. Yanjian Group and CSCECNEI designed the impressive 12343.7 square metre campus. This expansive campus houses not only classrooms and laboratories but also dormitories a teacher’s residence a canteen and a playground.

One notable alumna is Merilyn Tahi a prominent women’s rights activist. Her story is an inspiration. It reflects the college’s ability to nurture leaders and change-makers.
