Imagine Georges Delcoigne standing right where you are. He gazes upon his masterpiece Maison Delcoigne. It is his personal statement in stone and artistry. Maison Delcoigne stands here as a testament to Art Nouveau’s floral embrace.

Georges Delcoigne was a Brussels architect. He lived from 1876 to 1922. Though his portfolio included neoclassical and eclectic designs, he etched his name in Art Nouveau. Maison Delcoigne is at Place Morichar number 14. It is a prime example of his Art Nouveau vision.

Completed in 1899 Maison Delcoigne is more than just a house. It is a declaration. Delcoigne used it as his calling card. The facade presents white stone from Euville. It is a canvas for sculpted stones and detailed woodwork. Stained glass shimmers. Sgraffito adds stories to the walls.

Look closely at the sgraffito. They represent allegories. One depicts Music and Song. The other shows Painting. These artistic representations embody Delcoigne’s vision. Above the entrance a beautiful oriel window extends over several levels. It culminates in a small balcony. Imagine the light filtering through its panes illuminating the interior. The main bay features a magnificent balcony. It is supported by superb consoles.

Consider the house’s excellent condition. It has been carefully restored. The restoration respects Delcoigne’s original project. Since 2006, Maison Delcoigne has been listed as a historic building.

Cross the vast square. You will find another Art Nouveau gem. Maison Van Bellinghen Tomberg stands at number 41. Ernest Blerot designed its magnificent facade.

Maison Delcoigne embodies balance. It achieves this balance despite its variety of decorations. The building exudes majesty. It showcases Georges Delcoigne’s genius. It reminds us that architecture is more than construction. It is an art form.
