“Hardwood beneath your feet.” That’s the first sensation as you enter the Main Gym here at UC San Diego. This isn’t just any gym. The Main Gym has a story to tell.

Welcome to the Main Gym. It’s a space where echoes of athletic glory and vibrant events resonate through time.

Imagine the roar of the crowd. Picture the intense focus of athletes. The Main Gym floor stretches 115 feet by 100 feet of hardwood. It has seen countless moments of triumph and dedication.

Once the home court for UCSD’s NCAA teams. Men’s and women’s volleyball teams battled here. Basketball teams soared and fenced with precision. Now, the UC San Diego fencing teams call it home. Before the LionTree Arena opened Main Gym held these sports.

The Main Gym is more than just sports. It has hosted numerous concerts. Captivating lectures filled the air. Summer camps buzzed with youthful energy. Even workouts for the 1992 Olympic Dream Team took place here. Think about that. The world’s best athletes honing their skills right where you stand.

Consider its features. The Main Gym has a maximum capacity of 1600 people. Bleachers can seat up to 800 spectators. Six basketball goals stand ready for action. Floor sleeves allow for six badminton courts. Two volleyball courts can also be set up.

The Main Gym can be configured in many ways. One main basketball court of 95 feet x 50 feet is possible. Two basketball courts crossing the main courts at 74 feet x 42 feet each can be arranged. One main volleyball court of 60 feet x 30 feet can be created. Two volleyball courts crossing the main courts at 60 feet x 30 feet each are another option. Finally, six badminton courts of 44 feet x 20 feet can be arranged.

Men’s, women’s and gender inclusive locker rooms offer convenience. Showers are available on the first floor. They are accessible through the west lobby. These facilities support the entire Main Gym complex.

To find the Main Gym use these directions. From Interstate 5, exit at La Jolla Village Drive. Head west. Merge onto North Torrey Pines Road. Turn right on Muir College Drive. Park in the Muir Upper Lot. Walk down the path. There it is.
