Nestled amidst the Brandenburg landscape, Mahlow whispers tales of transformation. Mahlow’s story begins in 1287, a small village etched into history. The arrival of the Dresden Railway in 1875 changed everything. Mahlow station became a gateway, connecting the village to the bustling city of Berlin. Wealthy Berliners flocked to Mahlow, drawn by its tranquil charm and newfound accessibility. The 20th century brought turmoil. The Berlin Wall severed Mahlow’s connection to Berlin, isolating the village and its station. The once vibrant S-Bahn line fell silent, a stark symbol of division. Life in Mahlow adapted. A shuttle service ran south to Rangsdorf, then later diverted to Schönefeld via the Berlin Outer Ring. A separate platform at Blankenfelde station maintained a fragile link, served by the “Blauer Bock” train, a nickname derived from its blue locomotive and a popular radio show. After reunification, the S-Bahn line to Blankenfelde was restored. On August 31, 1992, the S-Bahn from Blankenfelde to Mahlow, through Lichtenrade and on to Bernau, finally resumed, reuniting Mahlow with Berlin. Mahlow station stands as a testament to resilience. It’s a place where the echoes of history meet the promise of the future, where the whispers of the past intertwine with the hum of the present-day S-Bahn line S2. Mahlow, once a quiet village, now a vibrant part of Blankenfelde-Mahlow, continues to evolve, carrying its rich history into a new era.
