Doesn’t the name Madrasah Al-Hukmiah evoke a sense of wisdom and guidance? Madrasah Al-Hikmah, though not directly linked to the Arabs, shares a common thread with other Madrasahs in Malaysia. These Madrasahs owe much to the Arab influence on religious education.

Madrasah Al-Hikmah started humbly in 1998 with only three students. It has grown significantly. Today Madrasah Al-Hikmah has around 250 students. These students come from Malaysia and overseas. Initially Madrasah Al-Hikmah was a Surau-cum-Madrasah. It was located in the residential area of SS18 Subang Jaya.

In 2012 Madrasah Al-Hikmah relocated its girls’ section. The girls moved to a purpose-built Madrasah in Giching. This is on the outskirts of Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang. Four years later in 2016 the boys were relocated. They moved to another Madrasah in Kuala Kelawang, Negri Sembilan.

Maulana Umair heads the boys’ Madrasah Al-Hikmah. He received his Ijaazat from Darul Ulum Arabia. Darul Ulum Arabia is located in Cape Town, South Africa. Ustaz Abdul Kadir leads the girls’ section. He earned his degree from the International Islamic University, Malaysia. Many teachers at Madrasah Al-Hikmah studied at Darul Ulum. They also studied at Madrasahs in South Africa.

About sixty percent of Madrasah Al-Hikmah students are Malaysian. The remaining students come from overseas. These countries include Finland, China and the Philippines. Also Singapore, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa and Thailand are represented.

Arabic and English serve as the mediums of instruction at Madrasah Al-Hikmah. Madrasah Al-Hikmah offers overseas students the chance to study Deen in Malaysia using English. Madrasah Al-Hikmah relies on contributions. These contributions come from parents, zakat and lillah. Community members also donate.
