Eagles soar here. That is the spirit of Madison High School. It stands proudly in Madison Heights, Michigan.

Madison High School is more than just bricks and mortar. It is a place of learning and growth. It is part of the Madison District Public Schools.

Let’s step back in time. The original high school building was erected in 1924. It served students from one-room schoolhouses. These schoolhouses were in the southern part of what is now Madison Heights. The first graduating class was in 1929. It had only two students. Madison School District officially became a graded district in 1925.

Fast forward to 1941. The gymnasium got its first electric scoreboard. This happened thanks to the Eagles basketball team. They conducted a magazine sale to raise funds.

In 1958, the current Madison High School was built. The old high school became Wilkinson Middle School. Madison High School has a rich history.

Today, Madison High School continues to educate. The school had 244 students in the 2023-2024 school year. The student-to-teacher ratio is about 15.68 to 1. The school colors are purple and gold. The athletic teams compete in the Macomb Area Conference. They are known as the Eagles.

Patricia Perry is the principal. The school has about 15.56 full-time staff members.

Madison High School faces challenges. In 2021, parents protested about the roof’s condition. The roof hadn’t been replaced since 1997. Some patchwork had been done. Parents worried about potential health hazards. The district sought proposals to fix the roof. Money was a problem. A previous bond proposal failed.

Despite these challenges, Madison High School continues. It provides education and opportunities for its students.

Madison High School has produced notable alumni. Grady Alderman played in the NFL. He was an offensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings. Renee Ellmers graduated in 1982. She became a U.S. Representative for North Carolina.

Madison High School stands as a testament to community. It is a place where students learn. They grow. They prepare for their futures. Remember the Eagles. Remember the purple and gold. Remember Madison High School.
