Nestled at the foot of Parasnath Hill, the Madhuban Mandir whispers tales of devotion and rebirth. The Madhuban Mandir isn’t just a single structure. It’s a complex of seven temples, a testament to the Jain faith and its deep connection to this sacred hill. Sammed Shikharji, as the hill is also known, is a beacon for Jains. It is believed that twenty Tirthankaras achieved salvation here. Imagine the energy of this place, imbued with centuries of spiritual practice. The Madhuban Mandir complex itself is a relatively recent addition to this ancient landscape. Records indicate that in 1752, the 15th King of Delhi gifted the land, including Madhuban Kothi, to Seth MahtabRai. Seth MahtabRai dreamed of rebuilding the Jain temples on the hill, a dream his sons carried forward after his passing. In 1822, his son, Seth Kushaalchand, oversaw a period of rapid construction. A fascinating story surrounds this reconstruction. Unable to determine the precise locations where each Tirthankara attained Nirvana, Seth Kushaalchand prayed to Goddess Padmavati. Legend says the goddess appeared in his dream, revealing that saffron-painted swastikas marked the sacred spots. With this divine guidance, the Madhuban Mandir and the hilltop temples were reborn. The Madhuban Mandir, nestled amidst the trees, offers a serene respite before the arduous climb up Sammed Shikharji. It serves as a gateway to the spiritual journey, a place of preparation and reverence.
