The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link opened on June 30 2024. This bridge-tunnel system redefined travel in the Pearl River Delta. Before its creation, a simple journey was an ordeal. A 100-kilometer trip could take two hours. Today, thanks to the Machitian Bridge, that same distance is covered in just 30 minutes.
Think of the possibilities this opens. Business, tourism and family visits are easier now. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link isn’t a standalone structure. It’s part of a larger system. It includes a 6.7-kilometer tunnel and 19 bridges. The continuous bridge section stretches 22.5 kilometers. About 15.5 kilometers of that is over the sea.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link boasts impressive stats. It has eight lanes, four in each direction. Cars can travel at a maximum speed of 100 km/h. This thoroughfare connects major expressways. It joins the Guangshen Expressway and the Jihe Expressway on the east. On the west, it meets the Zhongjiang Expressway.
