Have you ever walked through a neighborhood that felt like stepping back in time? The Macconago is a place where you can truly get a feel for the past, and you’re standing right in front of it. The Macconago, once its own municipality, is today a suburb of Milan, known for its rural charm. It was an independent town until 1841. Imagine a place where time stood still. Even though it’s now part of Milan, the Macconago has retained that rural feel and is a part of the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, a sprawling park where nature thrives. It’s a place where you can breathe in the fresh air, where you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The neighborhood has a long and rich history. It was even the site of a battle in the 12th century. Milanese soldiers clashed with the troops of Pavia. This battle was a major victory for the Milanese and they captured almost the entire enemy infantry. The Macconago was once home to a castle. Built between 1330 and 1340 this castle was a typical Visconti architectural style. Today, it’s owned by the Ferrario Gavana family. The Macconago might be closer to the modernity of Milan today, but walking through its streets is a journey through history.
