Lynwood Baptist Church began its journey not here but as Third Baptist Church in 1959. A small congregation of 27 people started it all. Their first service was on March 4 1962. They met at Lynnwood and Randol Streets. Imagine the dedication those early members showed.
In 1965 the church changed its name to Lynwood Baptist Church. First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau helped with the name change. This wasn’t just a change of name. It was a step towards a larger vision a stronger sense of identity.
By 1996 Lynwood Baptist Church had outgrown its original location. They moved to a new site offering 24 acres for church development. Think of the expansion the growth that this relocation represented. It showed a thriving community. Their average weekly attendance reached 873 in 2018.
Today Lynwood Baptist Church welcomes all. It offers Sunday School for all ages. They even provide nursery care for children 3 and under.
