Perhaps you’ve heard tales of a school where French and German cultures intertwine. That place exists right here. We are standing before the École Française de Hambourg Antoine de Saint Exupéry. It’s a French international school in Hamburg. It is part of the Agency for French Education Abroad or AEFE network.

The École Française de Hambourg offers nursery school and primary school programs. Both are taught in French. Graduates from here get priority for the French-speaking branch. This branch is part of the DFG/LFA Hamburg. That’s a French-German secondary school.

Until August 2020, this school was known as Lycée Français de Hambourg Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Back then, it also offered secondary education. In 2020, the Lycée Français split. It became the École Française and the DFG / LFA Hamburg.

This school is private. The French Ministry of Education approves it. The educational authorities of Hamburg also approve it as an Ersatzschule. A nonprofit German registered association manages it financially. The board of directors gets elected every two years.

In 2020, the first class of the Franco-German high school opened. It was temporarily on the site of the French School of Hamburg. The Franco-German high school plans to move to a new campus. It will be in the district of Altona and should be completed in 2023.

The École Française de Hambourg is more than just a school. It is a place where young minds grow. Here, they embrace both French and German cultures. The school is approved by the French Ministry of Education. It also holds recognition from Hamburg’s educational authorities.

The École Française welcomes students from nursery school up to primary school. After that, students can continue their education. They can go to the French-speaking branch of the Lycée Franco-Allemand. This allows them to prepare for the Franco-German Baccalaureate.

The École Française de Hambourg also focuses on digital learning. Every classroom has digital interactive boards. Every student has an iPad starting in CP. Teachers receive iPad Pros and Macbook Pros. The school invests heavily in digital training.

Since August 1, 2020, the École Française de Hambourg became separate from the Lycée Franco-Allemand. However, they maintain a pedagogical connection. Students from the École can continue their studies at the LFA. This prepares them for the Franco-German Baccalaureate. The École Française de Hambourg is committed to providing an international education. It is digitally advanced and open to all. It is a unique place of learning in Hamburg. It prepares students for a future that bridges cultures and embraces technology.
