Perhaps you’ve heard of Salzburg’s famous lakes like Mondsee. But today, we explore a lesser-known gem: Luginger See.

Luginger See sits near Anthering in Salzburg. It is easily accessible from the nearby towns of Elixhausen, Bergheim, and Gollacken. Freilassing is also not too far.

While Luginger See may not boast many tourist attractions, its location makes it a worthwhile visit. It’s nestled in a region brimming with beautiful lakes. Nearby, you’ll find Ragginger See, Wallersee, and Abtsdorfer See. Each offers its own unique charm.

The area between Hochgitzen and Haunsberg features several small lakes. Luginger See and Ragginger See are among them. This landscape-protected area is popular with cyclists. It’s also perfect for leisurely walks. The views are stunning. You can see far across the Salzburg Lake District toward the Alps.

For a scenic hike to Luginger See, start in Elixhausen. Begin at the north entrance between the Jet gas station and Restaurant Felix. Follow Voggenbergstrasse to the left toward the mountains. Then, turn right onto Windigbergstrasse. The route leads over Weichenberg. It continues to Ehrengraben and then to Ragginger See. Luginger See is very close to Ragginger See.

The hike is about 3 kilometers long. It takes approximately 50 minutes. The starting point is easily found near the Jet gas station and Restaurant Felix. The path is always open. However, it is not suitable for strollers. You can enjoy a meal at Restaurant Felix. Don’t miss the wonderful panoramic views.

Salzburg itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is known for Mozart, stunning scenery, and rich culture. Salzburg offers a mix of history, art, and beautiful gardens.

Luginger See may be a small, quiet lake. But it provides access to the natural beauty of the Salzburg Lake District. It is a peaceful escape from the bustling city. So take a moment to appreciate this hidden treasure. Let the serene atmosphere of Luginger See refresh your spirit.
