This action was not without risk. It could have cost him his life. The Prussian Court was initially furious. They ordered Yorck’s suspension and court-martial. However events unfolded quickly. On March 17 1813 Yorck entered Berlin triumphantly. The city erupted in celebration. That same day the King declared war on France. Yorck played a key role in the subsequent Allied victories. He participated in battles like Katzbach Leipzig and Laon. He ultimately saw the storming of Paris.
His military contributions were immense. His daring decision to switch alliances shifted the balance of power. It was a decisive moment in the war. Ludwig van Beethoven even composed the Yorckscher Marsch in his honor.
