Have you ever yearned for a stroke of good fortune? Right here in Downtown Los Angeles, in the South Park Commons, stands the Lucky Break Sculpture. This towering 24-foot-tall sculpture, shaped like a colossal wishbone, embodies the very essence of a lucky break. The Lucky Break Sculpture was commissioned in 2019 by the Mack Real Estate Group for their newly developed public park. They envisioned a unique centerpiece, something truly remarkable. And remarkable it is. The artist, Jonathan Paul, also known as Desire Obtain Cherish, poured two years of dedication into bringing this vision to life. It began as a 3D rendering, then meticulously printed and cast at the Rock Tavern foundry in upstate New York. The sculpture is crafted from multiple sections of hand-cast aluminum, welded together with precision and engineered to seamlessly integrate with the site’s foundation. After painting and curing, this massive wishbone embarked on a cross-country journey to its Los Angeles home. The wishbone itself is a powerful symbol, representing the promise of good luck. The saying “get a lucky break” originates from this very tradition. Los Angeles, known as the City of Angels, is also a city of dreams. People flock here, hoping to catch their big break, their lucky moment. The Lucky Break Sculpture invites you to do the same. Stand before it, make a wish, and perhaps, just perhaps, your lucky break awaits. Jonathan Paul, the artist, encourages visitors to interact with the sculpture, to embrace its symbolism. He sees Los Angeles as a city of dreams and hopes the sculpture will inspire those dreams to come true.
