How quickly things change. Luang Prabang Airport is a testament to that. It wasn’t long ago that this very spot hosted a charmingly dilapidated airport from the 1960s. Travelers would disembark their planes and be met with a blast of heat as they walked across the tarmac to a tiny, chaotic terminal. Today, Luang Prabang Airport stands as a modern beacon of progress. This sleek, two-story structure, with its air-conditioned comfort and automatic doors, is a far cry from its predecessor. The new Luang Prabang Airport, a symbol of Laos’s growth, was built to accommodate larger aircraft and increased tourism. The old terminal might be gone, but some things remain wonderfully unchanged. Peek inside the arrivals hall, and you’ll find the same wooden taxi stand from the old airport. It’s a delightful reminder that beneath the shiny new facade, the heart of Laos beats on.
