In 1971, Reverend Marvin Tucker became the pastor of Lovera Baptist Church. He came from a Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico. He had also served in Michigan.

Nearly thirty-three million Baptists live in America. Baptist churches trace back to John Smyth. He was part of the Separatist Movement in 1608 in England. A unique belief of Baptist churches is the baptism of adult believers. This is instead of infant baptism. Baptist denominations follow a congregational church governance. Each individual congregation is governed autonomously.
