Their forms rise above a base that seems to burst forth from the grey cobblestones. The artist created this work directly on the Place de la Monnaie. The striking blue marble streaked with grey hails from Argentina. Funded by theatregoers subscriptions and support from the city and region the sculpture stands as a testament to community support. Acquired by the Brussels-Capital Region in 1993 after an agreement with the city of Brussels it was moved in the early 2010s due to renovations. Now it stands proudly opposite the Museum of Art & History in Brussels. Love on the Rock’s journey reflects the city’s own dynamism and its dedication to preserving art.
