“Whether in war, forest, ocean or jungle, whenever you are in danger remember me.” These words echo through the devotees minds as they approach Lokenath Baba Mandir. Who spoke these words? These were spoken by Baba Lokenath himself.

Lokenath Baba Mandir stands as a testament to the life and teachings of Baba Lokenath Brahmachari. He was a revered spiritual figure in Bengal. The temple is a place of peace and spiritual solace for countless devotees.

Baba Lokenath was born in 1730 in West Bengal. His parents dedicated him to a life of spiritual pursuit. From a young age, Lokenath showed a deep inclination towards spirituality. He became a disciple of Bhagwan Ganguly, a householder yogi. Lokenath underwent intense yogic practices. He mastered various forms of yoga and meditation.

For thirty years, Lokenath practiced celibacy. He lived in jungles and plains. He observed fasting. Later, he went to the Himalayas. At the age of 90, he attained Nirvikalpa Samadhi. It is a state of complete oneness with the divine.

Baba Lokenath traveled extensively. He visited Mecca, Afghanistan, Persia and even the North Pole. He spread his message of love and compassion. Eventually, he settled in Baradi in Bangladesh. There, he lived for the last twenty-six years of his life.

His compassion and love attracted people from all religions. His hermitage became a confluence of all faiths. People saw him as a wish-fulfilling tree. Miracles happened spontaneously throughout his life. He trained householders to reach high states of yoga.

Even at night, yogis from the Himalayas and Tibet visited him. They came in their astral bodies to learn advanced yoga. Baba Lokenath never blinked his eyes even once during his lifetime.

On June 2nd 1890 at the age of 160 Baba Lokenath left his mortal body. He entered mahasamadhi which is complete liberation. His eternal promises resonate in the hearts of his followers. They come from all castes, colors and creeds.

The teachings of Baba Lokenath are simple. They emphasize love devotion and faith. He said to restrain the tongue and the sex organ to attain enlightenment. He assured his devotees of his eternal presence and protection.

Baba Lokenath spent over two decades at Baradi Ashram. The small village became a holy pilgrim center. Seekers of all faiths found a confluence there. Baba embodied the synthesis of yoga and religions.

Narisababa asked Baba how to focus on the Divine amid negative situations. Baba replied that Divine Grace makes the impossible possible. With Grace, the mind turns spontaneously to the Divine.

Baba Lokenath attained Self-Realization through diverse paths of yoga. He became one with the absolute ground of Reality. He became a witness to the Divine Play. He said words are poor vehicles to express inner experience.

His devotees still feel his presence today. They believe that remembering him in danger brings his help. Lokenath Baba Mandir stands as a beacon of his teachings. It reminds us of his eternal promise. This is that he will always be there to protect those who remember him with love and devotion.
