For decades the Löffelbrücke did its job quietly. Connecting parts of Berlin. Carrying people and goods across the Panke. Then time took its toll. The old bridge began to show its age. So from 2015 to 2020 the old Löffelbrücke was replaced. This was no small undertaking. The project cost approximately 2.3 million euros. The new Löffelbrücke is a different beast altogether. This time it’s a reinforced concrete frame structure. It stands on deep foundations. These foundations are large bored piles. They extend far below the existing abutments. They anchor into stable soil layers at least 2.5 meters deep. The replacement is strong. Its design is modern and functional.
Yet despite the change in construction. The new Löffelbrücke remains remarkably similar to its predecessor. It maintains the same span of nine meters. Its width is almost identical. Around 34.9 meters between railings. It continues to serve the same purposes as the old Löffelbrücke. Pedestrians vehicles trams. And of course all those essential utility lines.
