It’s a 0-6-0T steam locomotive. The standard shunter for the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane or FS the Italian State Railways.

Locomotiva FS 835.046 and its sisters were incredibly prolific. Over 370 of these locomotives were built between 1908 and 1922. They toiled tirelessly across the Italian rail network. Their nicknames Cirilla or Pierina hint at the affection some developed for these workhorses.

The early models only had a counter-pressure steam brake. Later versions were upgraded with air brakes. After World War II three of these locomotives 019 198 and 220 remained in what was then Yugoslav territory. They continued service under the Yugoslav Railways. Today Locomotiva FS 835.046 stands as a monument. This one is in San Zenone al Lambro. It’s one of 54 surviving examples a testament to their enduring legacy. They are proudly displayed as static exhibits in various Italian museums.
