Didn’t the Livonia Marketplace rise from the ashes of the old Livonia Mall? This vibrant hub of shopping stands as a testament to community and reinvention.

The Livonia Marketplace has transformed the historic site of the original Sears. It has become a dynamic plaza for diverse shops and essential services.

Let’s rewind to 1964. The Livonia Mall emerged as the second mall in Livonia. Kresge and Sears were its original anchors. Imagine a farmhouse and barn replaced by this modern marvel. It quickly became one of Michigan’s first enclosed shopping malls.

Fast forward to the late 1980s. The mall expanded. A new wing with Mervyns was added in 1987. Children’s Palace arrived in 1989. Value City later acquired Crowley’s.

By 2007, times had changed. Dollar Tree, GameStop, and Jo-Ann Fabrics were among the few national chains left. Konover Properties acquired the mall in 2005. Redevelopment plans surfaced, including a new big box retailer.

In 2008, Value City closed. The mall shuttered except for Sears and Jo-Ann Fabrics. Demolition began in 2009. The Livonia Mall was gone.

But from the rubble emerged the Livonia Marketplace. It opened in mid-2010. A Walmart Supercenter became a new anchor. Kohl’s followed in 2012.

Customers appreciate the spacious, clean environment. It encourages leisurely exploration of a variety of stores including Walmart and Dollar Tree. The marketplace features a charming gazebo area. It offers a park-like setting.

The grand opening of a resale shop added a new dimension. It showcases quality items at accessible prices. It’s not just the shopping that defines this place. It is the community spirit and easy access. The Livonia Marketplace is more than just a shopping destination. It is a cherished part of the local culture.

Today, the Livonia Marketplace continues to evolve. It adapts to the needs of the community. It is a place where memories are made and convenience is found. A place where the past is remembered. The future is embraced. The Livonia Marketplace is truly a gem in Livonia.
