“Making a difference.” That’s the motto of Living Word Church. Founded in 1980, Living Word Church is committed to sharing the Gospel’s hope. Senior Pastors Mac and Lynne Hammond started it. They wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.
Today, Living Word meets in several locations as one church. It serves people with God’s unlimited love. The church wants you to know Jesus. They want you to experience His life and hope. Their mission is clear. They want to reach people, touch lives, and make a difference.
The best way to do that is through God’s Word. Weekend services are central to their mission. Each service builds a solid spiritual foundation. This prepares you for God’s goodness. It prepares you for His plan for your life.

Living Word Christian Center’s history goes back to 1988. Bill and Veronica Winston held evangelistic meetings then. They met at the Quality Inn Hotel near downtown Chicago. At the time, they still lived in Minnesota. They traveled to Chicago on weekends. They held two-day “Faith Crusades.” Sometimes, less than 20 people attended. Pastor Winston taught God’s Word. Sister Veronica played guitar for praise and worship.
Soon, God told Pastor Winston to move his family to Chicago permanently. He obeyed. With only $200, but filled with God’s Word, they moved in 1988. Pastor Winston’s vision was to start a Bible training school. God led him to start a church instead.
He founded Living Word Church of Chicago in 1989. The church started with less than 50 members. They met in a storefront on Chicago’s West Side. It was at the corner of Lake and Pulaski streets. A year later, the church moved to Forest Park. It was at 7306 West Madison Street. With this move in 1990, the church became Living Word Christian Center.
After signing the lease, more than half the members didn’t move to Forest Park. Pastor Winston confessed God’s Word for increase and growth. New members came steadily. The church needed a larger worship center.
From 1994 through 1997, services were held at the Chez Roué Banquet Hall. The ministry eventually bought the Forest Park Mall. It was a 33-acre shopping mall. The church held its first service in a vacant store on New Year’s Eve 1997.
Today, Living Word Christian Center has 20,000 members. It is a multi-cultural church. Services are held in a state-of-the-art worship center. This church believes in the Bible as God’s Word. They believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They believe in Jesus’s birth, resurrection, and return.
Remember Living Word Church and its mission. To reach people, touch lives, and make a difference.
