Nestled against the eastern slopes of the Taihang Mountains lies Liucun Town. Liucun is a place of ancient history, evolving from a humble village to the bustling town you see today. Liucun shares its borders with several other towns and townships. To the northeast, you’d find Nankou Town. Yangfang and Machikou Town lie to the east. Sujiatuo and Miaofengshan Towns are to the southeast. Yanchi Town sits to the southwest. Finally, Ruiyunguan Township marks the northwestern border. This location in the foothills gives Liucun a unique character. As of 2020, Liucun Town was home to over 18,000 people. This gives you a sense of the scale of the town as you explore its streets. Liucun Town wasn’t always a town. It started as Liu Village, part of Changwan County in Hebei. This was before 1948. From 1956 to 1961, it became part of the 3rd, then the 6th District of Changping County in Beijing. Then, a significant change happened. From 1961 to 1983, Liucun transformed into the Liucun People’s Commune. This reflects the larger political and social changes happening in China at the time. The evolution continued. Liucun transitioned from a township from 1983 to 1997 to finally becoming Liucun Town in 1997. It retained this status as part of Changping District. Liucun is made up of 28 distinct villages. These villages, with names like Beizhuangcun and Xiadian, contribute to the rich tapestry of Liucun. Each village likely holds its own unique stories and traditions, waiting to be discovered. Imagine the aerial view of Mapaoquan Village in 2014, or the tranquil scene at the Wangjiayuan Reservoir in 2019. These images offer glimpses into the natural beauty and the daily life of Liucun. Liucun’s journey reflects the broader changes in Chinese society, from rural villages to communes and finally to the modern town. As you walk through Liucun, remember this rich history woven into the very fabric of the streets and buildings.
