“Large numbers of residents having the surname Li.” That’s the origin story of Lisui Town’s name. We are here in Lisui. It is in the southern part of Shunyi District Beijing. Lisui is more than just a name. It is a place with a history that stretches back centuries.

Let’s delve into the past of Lisui. We trace its roots to the Liao dynasty. The name Lisui itself has an interesting story. It combines the common surname Li with the town’s location. This location is near the Baisui River. The Bai River is known today.

Over the years Lisui has seen administrative changes. From 1912 to 1928 it was the 2nd District of Shunyi County. It transitioned through various districts. These were the 3rd and 7th Districts. By 1956 Lisui became a township. It briefly merged with Pailou Township. This was between 1956 and 1958. It then became the Lisui People’s Commune. This lasted until 1983. Lisui regained its township status. This was in 1983. It finally became Lisui Town in 1989.

In 2020 Lisui had a population of 22538 people. This population lived within its 40.17 square kilometers. That is a density of about 560 people per square kilometer. Lisui is organized into 16 villages. These villages each have unique names and histories.

Imagine walking through Xuanzhuanghu. Then picture Weixinzhuang. Each village has its own character. Each contributes to Lisui’s identity. These divisions reflect Lisui’s structure. They also show its connection to the land.

Consider the local geography. Lisui sits at an elevation of 30 meters. It borders several other towns. These include Nancai to the north and Yang to the east. To the south lies Yanjiao Town. Liqiao and Renhe Towns border to the west.

Lisui continues to evolve. It embraces its rich past. It also looks forward to the future. This town remains a vital part of the Shunyi District. Lisui contributes to Beijing’s vibrant tapestry. Its story shows resilience, adaptation, and enduring community spirit.
