“Live music and parties!” Does that sound like fun? It’s a staple at the Lindenpark, one of Potsdam’s prime social hubs. It is also one of the largest cultural centers in Brandenburg.
Welcome to the Lindenpark. This place has a long and fascinating history. For over 120 years, the Lindenpark has been a part of Potsdam.
Originally, around 1900, it was a washhouse. Believe it or not. Then it became a popular spot for outings. Later, it transformed into a UFA cinema. Many films made in Babelsberg were shown right here.
After World War II, the Soviets briefly occupied it in 1945. But in the 1960s, it was back in the hands of Potsdam residents. It reopened as a “Dance and Entertainment Center.” Dance contests. Singing competitions. Theater. Concerts. It all happened here at the Lindenpark.
That spirit continues to this day. The main hall can hold up to 900 people. All kinds of music fill the air here. Rock. Pop. Blues. Ska. World music. Rock ‘n’ Roll. Even punk. The Lindenpark hosts big festivals. They have open-air concerts. Theater and comedy shows take the stage. Sophisticated readings engage the mind.
But the Lindenpark is not just for adults. Kids love it here too. The Kinder-Wahnsinn atelier puts on amazing events. Halloween festivals. Walpurgis Night celebrations. They have become Potsdam traditions.
Skating enthusiasts flock to the Lindenpark’s garden. A skatepark awaits them. Spring Skate. Summer Slam. These events draw people from all over.
The Lindenpark also has an open youth house called j.w.d. It has an open-air stage. Graffiti walls display colorful art. Several playgrounds invite play. Two Mongolian yurts offer unique spaces.
Inside, the Lindenpark offers even more. The main hall spans 330 square meters. It can host 900 people standing or 300 seated. A smaller salon accommodates 140 standing or 45 seated. It also functions as a cinema.
Outside, the open-air stage connects to a workshop room. Artists get a cozy backstage area. It even has its own shower. In the basement, MachMusik rehearsal rooms await. The Lindenpark partners with ZPOP. Together, they provide space for music projects. Up to 25 children can participate.
In the garden you get to decide what matters. Do you want action or relaxation? The Lindenpark offers both. Relax under the trees. The trees surround the playground. Find the youth club. Skaters and BMXers will love the funsport park. It has a miniramp. Jumpbox. Bank-Wallride-Kombi. Banks. Quaterramps. Kicker. Rails. Curbs. Pyrahip with Ledge. A five-step stair with curbs and rails completes the space. The community helps expand the park. The newest highlight is the concrete bowl. Potsdam’s only covered ramp protects from bad weather.
Younger visitors adore the playground. They can dig, swing, climb, and slide. A beautiful pavilion provides space for picnics. The Waldcafé serves treats. Enjoy snacks. Drinks. Ice cream. A soccer court invites everyone to play.
The Lindenpark’s “Wall of Fame” shows off graffiti art. Fair play is the rule. New art must stay up for two weeks.
The Lindenpark is always open to new ideas. It has many spaces. The hall with a stage. The salon with a bar. The open-air stage. The youth club. The skatepark. The playground. The Lindenpark is truly a place for everyone.
