Born from the sweat of Hanomag workers and the boisterous shouts of sailors the Lindener Sportverein Alexandria von 1903 e V stands before you. Its story is etched not just in trophies but in the very bricks of Linden.

Imagine Linden at the turn of the 20th century. Young men toiled in factories. They sought respite. Rugby became their release a battleground on the Ohefeld. Their growing desire for a team led seven Hanomag workers to a momentous meeting. On October 6 1903 in the Zloch tavern a legend was born. The name however was a happy accident. Nearby a group of sailors debated the world’s most beautiful city. Their resounding answer Alexandria sealed the club’s fate. The Lindener Sportverein Alexandria von 1903 e V was christened.

Early success followed. The club secured its own ground. Then they moved to a new pitch. Triumph arrived. In 1921 and 1922 the LSV Alexandria won the North German Rugby Championship. They narrowly missed German glory losing the final both years. Hermann Fromme a visionary leader guided the club through its golden era. His passion for football however eventually led him to Hannover 96. Only in 1928 did the LSV Alexandria finally add football to its roster.

Industrial expansion cruelly interrupted their success. The HANOMAG company took their beloved playing field. A paltry 4000 Reichsmarks was the only compensation. The Nazis’ Gleichschaltungsgesetz forced small clubs to merge. In 1938 the LSV Alexandria became part of a larger organization. A group of loyal members however kept the spirit alive forming the Alt-Alex bowling club.

After the devastation of World War II the LSV Alexandria rose again. On August 29 1950 the club was reborn. Initially they played on the Schützenplatz a temporary solution. They endured hardship clearing the field after city events. Their persistence paid off. A new ground was built near the Siloah Hospital marking the 50th anniversary. The celebratory festivities were epic. At this high point nearly 700 members played across various sports. Sadly another expansion this time by the Siloah Hospital meant the search for a new home. A short stay near the Swiss Life Hall preceded their move to their current location at the Lodemannbrücke. Today the Lindener Sportverein Alexandria von 1903 e V continues its legacy. Though diminished in size its spirit endures a testament to resilience and the enduring power of sport. The club’s rich history a blend of hard work happy accidents and unwavering dedication is a true story of Hanover.
