Isn’t it remarkable how rivers shape not only landscapes but also experiences? The Limpaki River does just that. This river, close to Kampung Limpaki, offers a serene escape into Brunei’s natural beauty.

The Limpaki River isn’t just any river. It’s where the river meets the sea. This creates an estuarine wetland. This area becomes a rich mangrove swamp. These mangroves teem with life. Proboscis monkeys swing through the trees. Cat snakes slither among the branches. Crocodiles lurk in the water. Owls watch from above and fireflies light up the night. The river itself is full of fish, prawns, crabs, and clams.

What is the best way to explore this vibrant ecosystem? By canoe. Unlike noisy motorboats, canoes allow for a quiet journey. You can get close to nature without disturbing the wildlife. It’s also a great workout.

Our journey begins at Kampung Limpaki. We gently unload our canoes. We need to step onto the muddy riverbank. Be ready for some mud on your feet. Don’t worry. It’s all part of the adventure.

As we paddle, notice the shallow water. The riverbed is visible at low tide. Small fish dart around. The sun warms our skin. Be sure to cover up to avoid sunburn.

Look around at the full mangrove lining the riverbank. A signboard reminds us that this is a protected national park. No hunting or cutting down trees is allowed. This helps preserve this natural habitat.

As we paddle further, the Limpaki River broadens. The river eventually leads to the Limbang Brunei border. It is illegal to cross the border.

After a while, we turn back. We paddle towards Kampung Limpaki. The water level has risen. The muddy water makes it hard to see the riverbed now.

The Limpaki River offers more than just wildlife watching. Fishing and crab catching are popular activities.

The Limpaki River is a vital part of Brunei’s ecosystem. It’s a place where nature thrives. The Limpaki River offers a unique experience for those seeking tranquility and adventure. So, take a deep breath. Enjoy the sounds and sights of the Limpaki River. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
