This small but mighty group, led by Joanna and Todd Keim, extends the church’s embrace far beyond its walls, touching lives in the heart of Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. Every other Sunday, they transform a sidewalk outside Hope Park into a haven of compassion. They offer nourishment with sandwiches, fruit, and drinks, all generously donated by the Lighthouse Fellowship community. They provide warmth with hats, gloves, and blankets, gifts of love from the church. But more importantly, they share prayers, hugs, and unwavering encouragement. Lighthouse Fellowship United Methodist Church supports this mission wholeheartedly. Its pastor, the Rev. Cynthia Brubaker, understands the power of small acts performed with great love. The church members see the reflection of their faith in the Keims’ dedication. The connection between Lighthouse Fellowship United Methodist Church and Shores of Grace runs deep. The ministry’s founders, Nic and Luke Billman and their wives, trained church leaders in their “School of the Streets” program. The Keims, inspired by this training, took the reins of the Hope Park mission during the pandemic. While other groups retreated, they persisted, recognizing the unwavering need for connection and support. Joanna, a special education teacher, and Todd, a nurse, embody the spirit of caring that permeates Lighthouse Fellowship United Methodist Church. Their dedication extends beyond Hope Park. Todd dreams of filling the air with music, fostering connections through cookouts and worship. This dream, however, needs more hands and hearts.
