How about a story that combines history and faith? The Lighthouse Cathedral has a unique past. It stands here today as a testament to Detroit’s evolving story.
Lighthouse Cathedral began its journey in 1959. Pastor Allie Taylor D.D. founded it as Lighthouse Tabernacle. The church first gathered in a tent in Ecorse, Michigan. It then moved to the King Theater on Chene St. in Detroit.
In 1960, Lighthouse Tabernacle relocated to 19009 Conant Ave. Bishop Charlie Green began attending the church at this location. The church remained there until 1974. It then moved to 8801 Woodward Ave.
This move marked a significant change. The church was renamed Lighthouse Cathedral. It stayed on Woodward until November 2007. A brief transition followed. The congregation met on Evergreen and 7 Mile. Finally, on July 1, 2008, Lighthouse Cathedral settled here at 15940 Puritan.
Bishop Charlie H. Green’s leadership shaped Lighthouse Cathedral. Born in Robinsonville, Mississippi, he is one of five children. He is married to Trennase Green. They have three children: Chareeta, LaKendra, and Charles Green.
Ordained in 1975 by Pastor Allie Taylor, Bishop Green became pastor on September 18, 1988. He has served as a strong leader ever since.
Lighthouse Cathedral welcomes everyone. The church embraces worshippers of all ages and backgrounds. It deepens connections to God. It spreads the teachings of Christ. It fosters a vibrant faith.
