In 1264 Pfarrer Burchard became Lichtenhagen Dorf’s first pastor. This peaceful Mecklenburg village nestled near Rostock boasts a rich history. Its core a protected landmark since 1976 showcases charming thatched-roof farmhouses. The village church and its parsonage stand as testaments to rural vernacular architecture. Lichtenhagen Dorf offers a captivating blend of old and new. Ancient buildings share space with more recent structures. This creates a unique atmosphere. The village’s history is truly remarkable. It goes back to 1200. Heinrich Borwin I invited Christian settlers to this sparsely populated area. They were to replace the pagan inhabitants. Lichtenhagen’s oldest structure the three-aisle hall church dates to the 14th century. Its impressive 45-meter tower was added in the 15th century. The Thirty Years’ War devastated the area. Lichtenhagen was left with only nine farmers and three cotters. The village barely survived. In 1648 the first inn opened its doors. This marked a new beginning for the community. Serfdom was introduced in 1654. Villagers faced years of forced labor. They provided service to their landlords. The Napoleonic Wars brought French troops to the village. A small detachment of 25 soldiers was stationed here. The 1808 planting of the Lichtenhäger Tannen a forest of fir trees added a natural beauty to the area. Lichtenhagen Dorf has evolved through the centuries. It went from a small farming community to a place of historical interest. Today it remains a charming example of rural life near the bustling city of Rostock. It is a treasured cultural heritage site worth exploring.
