Here stands Liberty Church of God In Christ a beacon of faith. Bishop Greg L. Fann, Sr. received a divine vision. God gave him the name Liberty International Church of God and Christ.
The story of Liberty Church of God In Christ began humbly. Bishop Fann enlisted Minister Cherry O. Williams-Robinson. She became his Assistant Pastor and helped start a choir. Choir rehearsals took place in Charlene Snell’s basement. She was Bishop Fann’s sister. His daughters, nieces, and a co-worker’s son comprised the choir. Sunday school sessions were also held at the home.
The first worship service occurred on December 13, 1980. It was held at the Art Center on Georgia Ave now Ralph Abernathy Blvd. The service took place in a simple classroom. Minister Roma L. Taylor joined the ministerial staff. She served as Associate Minister.
Liberty Church of God In Christ moved to a storefront. The building was located at 1580 Flat Shoals Road. This was in March 1981. God continued to bless the congregation. In December 1988, they rented a house. It was located at 1362 Stewart Ave now Metropolitan Pkwy. They later purchased the property.
In 1998, they changed their name. They became Liberty International Church. September 11, 2005, marked another blessing. The church broke ground for a new sanctuary. In August 2006, they marched into their new sanctuary.
Mother Effie Pearl Fountain founded the Angel Team in 2005. This followed the loss of Brother Eddie Robinson. The Angel Team aided Minister Cherry Robinson. They assisted with lifestyle changes. This expanded to church upkeep. They also prepared food for church programs. The Angel Team combines Pastor’s Aide and Hospitality Committee duties.
The Jennie Smith Fellowship Hall was established in 2005. The Alice Fann Administrative wing was also created. The Administrative Wing serves multiple purposes. It hosts Sunday School and a reading program. It also provides ministerial offices.
During this period of growth, four usher boards emerged. These were the Vivian Fann Usher Board. The Jordan Usher Board also served. The Charlene Snell Usher Board contributed. The Gregory L. Fann Usher Board completed the set.
The Men’s Ministry proved to be a strong support. They helped the church financially and physically. The men maintain the facility and provide security. In 2014, Liberty International Church Support Ministries were established.
Under this organization came several pastors. These included Pastor Beverly Collier of Greater Faith Tabernacle of God. College Park, Ga. was home to this tabernacle. Pastor Melvin Whitlock of Living Waters Christian Church also participated. His church was in Decatur, Ga. Pastor Clifford Dawkins of True Worship Church also took part. His church was in Atlanta, Ga.
In 2015, Minister Nakita Howard and Minister Latiska Roddie were licensed. They became part of the Ministerial Staff. The Liberty Church of God In Christ congregation continues to expand. With the Lord’s grace, it will continue to grow. It delivers the Door of Hope Ministry message. The church offers giving through PayPal and Zelle.
Liberty Church of God In Christ stands as a testament. It shows faith community and unwavering dedication. The motto says it all. “We are the head and not the tail. We are above and not beneath.” They walk by faith not by sight.
