Founded in 1994 the Liberal Parti Genel Merkezi stands as the central hub for a political entity. This party champions liberalism and democracy within Turkey. The Liberal Demokrat Parti is known as LDP. It operates right here in Ankara.
Besim Tibuk founded the party on July 26 1994. He envisioned a political movement. It would champion individual freedoms and free markets. Gültekin Tırpancı is the current general president. The headquarters is located in Çankaya Ankara.
The Liberal Parti Genel Merkezi’s ideology centers on classical liberalism. The LDP advocates for policies. These promote reduced government spending and lower taxes. The party seeks to minimize state bureaucracy. It also aims to transition to a voluntary private health insurance system. Ending conscription is another key goal of the Liberal Parti Genel Merkezi. The party promotes a professional army.
Interesting fact: a former Deputy Secretary-General suggested legalizing marijuana. This made the LDP the first party to openly advocate this in Turkey.
The Liberal Parti Genel Merkezi once had youth branches. However the party later declared that they don’t have youth and woman branches. Bülent Ateş won the elections in Muş’s Konakkuran district. He later joined the Democratic Regions Party.
In the 2023 elections the Liberal Parti Genel Merkezi supported the Millet İttifakı. The party cited shared values. These were respect for the rule of law secular democracy and transparent governance. The Liberal Parti Genel Merkezi faced challenges. They couldn’t participate in some elections. The YSK cited issues with the party’s organization.
