Lost in time, or perhaps reborn? Les joies du Printemps Sculpture stands here. This stone artwork by Eugène Canneel has quite a story.

Les joies du Printemps Sculpture was originally in Parc Josaphat. Sadly, vandals damaged it in the 1970s. Its remains were then stored in a cabin at the park’s greenhouses. Imagine them forgotten for about twenty years. They were exposed to the weather and humidity.

But the story of Les joies du Printemps Sculpture doesn’t end there. The head of the Maison des Arts de Schaerbeek stepped in. An expert team of restorers took on the challenge. They used another copy of Canneel’s sculpture in Huizigen as a guide. From this, they made a new mold. Missing parts were filled in. The trio of cherubs was lovingly restored.

Now, Les joies du Printemps Sculpture graces Square des Griottes. It is made of reconstructed stone. It measures 122 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 96 cm deep. This sculpture has inventory number 1599.

Eugène Canneel was the artist behind Les joies du Printemps. He even won a gold medal at the Arts Décoratifs Paris. Another sculpture by Canneel is called ‘Ronde D’enfants’. It features four children dancing.

Think about the journey of Les joies du Printemps. From a park to a forgotten cabin, and now, restored for all to admire. It serves as a reminder of art’s resilience. It showcases the dedication of those who preserve our cultural heritage. Take a moment to appreciate the artistry and the history.
