Imagine a 2.5 kilometer trek. You’ll traverse lush rainforest. Then you’ll find yourself in wet sclerophyll eucalypt forest. Bikes are an option too for those who prefer a quicker route. The terrain is undulating. It’s manageable for most but might challenge very young children. Keep an eye out for snakes and jumper ants. They are part of the local wildlife.
The campsite itself is spacious. It offers picnic tables some sheltered from the elements. You’ll also find a storm shelter. This is a welcome sight during unexpected showers. The park provides two large water tanks. These supply untreated water. Please bring your own drinking water. There are no toilets provided so please follow bush toileting practices.
At night the lights of Brisbane twinkle in the distance. If you are lucky fireflies put on a dazzling display. The views are stunning. In the morning you’ll watch the sun rise over Moreton Bay. As the day ends you’ll see the sun set over the western ranges.
Lepidozamia Park is located in the southern section of D’Aguilar National Park. It’s about 54 kilometers northwest of Brisbane’s city center. Access roads are sealed and suitable for two-wheel-drive vehicles. You’ll need a topographic map for precise navigation. The grid reference is 762 828.
To reach Lepidozamia Park from The Gap take Mount Nebo Road. Follow this to Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre. Continue along Mount Nebo Road and then Mount Glorious Road. Travel 35 kilometers to the gate accessing the Lepidozamia track.
