How about a journey where education meets innovation? That’s precisely what the Samuel Lemberg Academic Center at Brandeis University offers.
Welcome to the Samuel Lemberg Academic Center. It is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant hub of learning and collaboration.
Brandeis University wanted to expand its International Business School. They built the Samuel Lemberg Academic Center to blend seamlessly with the existing architecture, designed in the 1970s. The goal was to create overlapping points of activity. These would encourage interaction among students and faculty.
The Samuel Lemberg Academic Center achieved this goal by extending the aesthetic of the original building. It comprises a series of continuous spaces. These spaces enhance the flow of ideas both inside and outside the classroom. Academic functions are clustered on either side of bridges. These bridges link the new and existing buildings. This design transforms the physical gap. It becomes a place where students and faculty converge. Social hubs are placed on opposite ends of the building. They encourage movement from one area to another.
Inside the 25,000-square-foot Samuel Lemberg Academic Center, you will find a variety of spaces. There is a tiered classroom and lecture hall. Also there is a small library and conference areas. Do not forget to check out the common spaces and faculty offices.
The focal point of the Lemberg Center is a double-height cyber cafe. This cafe is flooded with light from floor-to-ceiling windows. These windows overlook a peaceful wooded hillside. Imagine yourself there. Sipping coffee while discussing groundbreaking ideas with your peers.
The Samuel Lemberg Academic Center cost approximately $248.66 per square foot to build. It was featured in the 2006 Architectural Portfolio.
