China’s friendship shines here. Lekma Hospital stands as a testament to international cooperation. This is more than just a building. It represents a commitment to health.
Lekma Hospital, also known as Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly Hospital, serves the Greater Accra Region. Established in 2010, it addresses critical healthcare needs. The hospital’s story began with a vision. The Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly wanted better healthcare.
China stepped in to help Ghana realize this vision. The Chinese government provided significant financial support. About 7.28 million US dollars were invested in the project. In just 16 months, the hospital was built. Vice President John Dramani Mahama inaugurated it on December 21, 2010.
Lekma Hospital offers a wide array of medical services. Internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics are all available. Gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and ENT services are also provided. The hospital features dermatology and cardiology departments. They opened a remarkable eye center in 2013.
The hospital includes key units and centers. Emergency services operate 24/7 for urgent medical needs. An Intensive Care Unit cares for patients in critical condition. The Maternity Unit focuses on prenatal, postnatal, and gynecological care. A Radiology Department uses X-rays and ultrasounds. Basic CT scanning is also available. Laboratory Services offer diagnostic tests. The Pharmacy provides essential medications. A Physiotherapy Unit aids patient rehabilitation. Family Planning Services offer advice. Lekma Hospital significantly improves health outcomes in the Teshie-Nungua area. The hospital has about 100 beds. It acts as a training ground for medical students and nurses. Lekma engages in public health programs. These programs promote health and prevent disease.
Challenges still exist for Lekma Hospital. Resource constraints pose an ongoing issue. The hospital often operates at full capacity. This strains resources. Maintenance and upgrades are always needed.
Looking ahead, Lekma Hospital has expansion plans. They want to accommodate more patients. Lekma collaborates with other healthcare institutions. These partnerships improve services and training. Medical research is another focus. They also improve community health programs.
Interestingly, Lekma Hospital integrates traditional medicine. A traditional medicine unit was established in 2010. The hospital is structurally integrated. However, functional integration is limited. The two practices work independently. There is very little information exchange.
The Nursing and Health Assistant Training School is located next to Lekma. Students gain practical experience at the hospital. This combination benefits their training.
Lekma Hospital also offers corporate client services. Companies send their staff for healthcare. Lekma depends on private and foreign support. The Chinese government helped build it. Lekma Hospital is working on marketing strategies. They seek support and donations. This ensures adequate medical standards. Lekma Hospital remains dedicated to providing high-quality care.
