His business acumen led to the founding of Henderson Development Limited in 1973. This expanded substantially throughout Hong Kong and mainland China. Dr. Lee’s foresight in investing in mainland China during the 1980s solidified his position as a leading real estate tycoon. But his wealth came with a sense of responsibility. Dr. Lee became a respected philanthropist, contributing billions of dollars to educational institutions globally. The Lee Shau Kee Foundation stands as a beacon of his commitment. It offers scholarships and donations to schools and universities worldwide. In Hong Kong alone, Dr. Lee generously donated to all nine universities. His support for education extended to establishing the first MBA program in Hong Kong at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1977. He also founded the Lee Shau Kee Scholarship in 1979, sponsoring Hong Kong students to study at Oxford University.
