Lede in Christus Kerk didn’t emerge from grand plans. Its beginnings are humble rooted in the heart of Pastor Cornelius Johannes Prinsloo. Born on January 1 1900 he wasn’t just a man of faith. He was a driving force behind a new Pentecostal movement. His early life saw him working as a machinist for the South African Railways. A pivotal moment came in 1923. He found faith under the ministry of Pastor G J Henning.
Pastor Prinsloo’s journey took an exciting turn. In 1928 he felt a divine call to start a Pentecostal movement in Pietersburg. His passion for the Holy Spirit’s work resonated deeply. This led him to connect with Sister M M Fraser founder of the Spade Rain Mission in Benoni. He established a Spade Rain Mission church in Pretoria. Its first worship space a converted cowshed in Schubart Street. Later a building in Potgieter Street became their “House of Faith”.
Pastor Prinsloo understood God’s ways. He knew that God often leads us through seasons of preparation. His personal journey and vision expanded. In December 1939 he received a powerful message. God instructed him to begin a separate Pentecostal movement. This decision was not taken lightly. It followed much prayer and fasting.
The call was answered. A group joined him. On January 21 1940 the Holy Spirit guided a prophetic message. Each person in the group was declared a “member in the Body of Christ”. This prophetic message further laid out guidelines. These guidelines formed the constitution of the new Pentecostal movement. The original Pietersburg group remained loyal. Churches were established across South Africa.
Pastor Prinsloo’s vision extended beyond South Africa. In 1952 he began planting churches internationally. This led to the establishment of churches in the USA Canada Belgium England and the Netherlands. He also preached in India Japan Australia and New Zealand. His work extended to Rhodesia now Zimbabwe.
