“Ga, Bu, Zo, Meu.” Does that sound like gibberish? Well, it is and it isn’t. These are the only four words in the Shadok language. Welcome to Le Shadok in Strasbourg a place inspired by the famous French animated series Les Shadoks.

Le Shadok stands proudly in the Pôle Seegmuller. It is in a building from the 1930s that was abandoned in 2000. This unique space is dedicated to digital culture. It focuses on introducing and raising awareness about responsible digital practices. Le Shadok has a varied and engaging program for everyone.

The main goal of Le Shadok is twofold. First, it aims to make digital tools accessible through comprehensive training. This training combines theory and hands-on practice. Second, Le Shadok seeks to create a space for critical reflection on our daily digital habits. Le Shadok wants us to think deeply about our digital lives.

Think of Le Shadok as a resource center for the entire community. It welcomes all residents. It provides an inclusive opportunity to explore and understand the important issues related to the digital world. Le Shadok is accessible to everyone wanting to learn.

The story of Le Shadok began with the Strasbourg city council and Strasbourg Eurométropole. They envisioned a hub dedicated to information and communication technologies within the Pôle Seegmuller. This idea took root in 2011.

Before its official opening, Le Shadok organized events “outside the walls.” Artists like Luc Schuiten participated. These events built anticipation for the center’s launch.

Le Shadok has received awards for its innovative approach. It was recognized by the Ministry of City, Youth and Sports. It also earned the “Territoire Innovant” silver label. Le Shadok was even part of the Strasbourg-Mulhouse bid for the French Tech label.

However, not everyone was patient. In December 2019, protesters occupied the unused building. They voiced their frustration over the lack of progress.

Since January 1, 2024, the Cybergrange association manages Le Shadok. It leads a group of digital outreach organizations. This group includes la Ligue de l’Enseignement 67, Emmaüs Connect, Random Bazar, and Longevity Music School.

Le Shadok offers a multidisciplinary and free program. It combines training with critical thinking about our digital habits. Its motto is: “For a responsible, useful, and creative digital world accessible to all.”

The space itself spans 2,000 square meters. Inside Le Shadok, you will find a coworking space. There is also a café-bar called Le Dok. In addition, there are workshops, exhibition areas, and conference rooms.

Le Shadok embodies the spirit of the Shadoks animated series. It encourages experimentation and critical thinking. Le Shadok explores digital culture and responsible technology use. It truly brings a unique approach to learning and engagement.
