Le Serment olympique – De Olympische eed was originally located at the bottom of the central reservation of Avenue des Sports in Laeken. It now resides in the square in front of Heysel Stadium. The pedestal carries inscriptions in Latin, French and Dutch. The Latin inscription, “Mens sana in corpore sano,” translates to “a healthy mind in a healthy body.” The French and Dutch inscriptions express gratitude to the city of Brussels and its mayor, Adolphe Max, in 1932.
