Hurtling through the Montreal sky, have you ever imagined facing a monster? At La Ronde amusement park, that’s exactly what awaits you. Le Monstre, French for “The Monster,” isn’t your average thrill ride. Le Monstre is a colossal wooden roller coaster, the largest in Canada and the tallest two-track wooden coaster globally. Reaching a height of 130.9 feet, Le Monstre towers over the park. Its twin tracks offer two unique experiences. One debuted in 1985. The second followed a year later, adding a twist to the monstrous tale. Unlike typical racing coasters, these tracks don’t mirror each other. They diverge, creating distinct adventures. Le Monstre hurls you down a steep first drop, then propels you over airtime hills at speeds reaching 59.7 mph. The ride provides more than just speed. The classic lap bars and individual seatbelts allow riders to experience a “floating” sensation during the airtime moments. Four trains, two per track, each carrying 20 passengers, ensure a steady stream of thrill-seekers face the monster. Le Monstre originally had new seats with safety belts. But at the riders’ request, La Ronde replaced them with the classic bars. So, prepare to be captivated by the sheer size and the unique double-tracked design of Le Monstre. It’s a testament to classic wooden coaster design with a touch of modern engineering. This isn’t just a ride; it’s a duel with a legend.
