Perhaps you’ve asked yourself what exactly Le Chemin du Paradis is. Le Chemin du Paradis translates to The Way to Paradise. It is a branch of the Holy Ghost Miracle Temple. This Montreal church has a fascinating backstory tied to a charismatic and controversial figure.

Brother Claude Gagnon founded the Holy Ghost Miracle Temple. He began his religious journey as a Pentecostal pastor in Quebec. Gagnon then ventured out on his own and established the Holy Ghost Miracle Temple. The Quebec government granted the church its religious charter in 1972.

Initially, the Miracle Temple was based in Quebec. Then, in the mid-1970s, Brother Gagnon expanded his ministry. He took his evangelical show on the road to Ontario and Western Canada. By 1980, he was broadcasting on Q Radio in Central Newfoundland.

Gagnon’s passionate sermons quickly attracted followers. In 1981, he held a tent crusade in the parking lot of a motel. Soon after, Brother Gagnon purchased the motel. He converted it into the Book of Acts Bible Revival Center. Since the motel had a bar, Gagnon held a ceremony. This was to cleanse the building of its sin.

At one point, it was speculated that Gagnon had about 250 followers in the Newfoundland area. The building became the Holy Ghost Miracle Temple. Brother Gagnon claimed to perform miracles. These open-air services always included a request for donations.

Brother Gagnon’s methods sparked controversy. Concerns arose about his preaching. There were also concerns about how he collected large sums of money. Despite the controversy, the Miracle Temple’s congregation grew.

Interestingly, there is still a branch of the Miracle Temple in Montreal. It’s located in an old stone church. This church is called Le Chemin du Paradis. Despite its traditional setting, the church features a neon sign. It declares The wages of your sin is Hell in French.

While Brother Gagnon’s son has taken over many duties, the Miracle Temple remains. Le Chemin du Paradis stands as a testament to his legacy. It serves as a reminder of the unique religious history of the region. It is open 24 hours every day.
