From a small country day school to a renowned academy, Lawrence Woodmere Academy’s journey is a testament to its enduring commitment to education. Lawrence Woodmere Academy first opened its doors in 1912 as Woodmere Academy. The school’s initial motto, “Disce Servire” (Learn to Serve), reflected its dedication to community and personal growth. In 1990, Woodmere Academy merged with Lawrence Country Day School, which was founded in 1891. This merger created the Lawrence Woodmere Academy we know today. The motto evolved to “Veritas, Integritas, Servitium” (Truth, Integrity, Service), encompassing a broader vision of educational excellence. Lawrence Woodmere Academy is situated on a beautiful seven-acre campus, just 17 miles from Pennsylvania Station and a short distance from the Queens County line on Long Island’s South Shore. The campus boasts modern facilities, including two outdoor soccer fields, a baseball field, tennis courts, playgrounds, and a swimming pool. The interconnected indoor spaces blend history and innovation. The main building, dedicated in 1921, stands alongside a modern library and technology center. Hessel Hall, a historic auditorium built in 1929 and later renovated, hosts various events and performances. Over 30 classrooms, equipped with interactive whiteboards and wireless technology, provide a stimulating learning environment. Lawrence Woodmere Academy prides itself on its distinguished alumni. Among them are notable figures like Andrew Barth Feldman, the acclaimed actor known for his role in “Dear Evan Hansen,” and Roger Berlind, a successful theatrical producer and former Lehman Brothers board member.
