Lawndale High School first opened its doors in 1959. It provided education until its closure in 1981. But the story doesn’t end there. The school reopened in 1998. It became part of the Centinela Valley Union High School District.
Lawndale High School is located at 14901 S. Inglewood Avenue. Its coordinates are 33°53′45″N 118°21′46″W. The school’s colors are Cardinal and White. The sports teams are known as the Cardinals. They compete in the CIF Southern Section Pioneer League.
In 2009, Lawndale High received the California Distinguished Award. Principal Vicente Bravo led the school at that time. The school also earned a US News Silver Medal. It was recognized for its achievements among similar high schools. Lawndale High was also a Title 1 Achievement school.
Enrollment figures show the school’s growth. In 2013–14, the student body numbered 2,364. In 2018-19, the enrollment was 2,278. More recently, in the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment stood at 1,680. The current principal is Angelica Mejia. About 14% of the students are English Language Learners.

Jalon Daniels is a quarterback at the University of Kansas. Terry Vance is in the AMA Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame.
