Twenty-two people. A simple home. That’s where the story of Las Flores Church of the Nazarenes began. Right after World War II. In bustling Oceanside California.

Imagine Oceanside then. Less than 10000 people. Interstate 5 was just a dream. A loaf of bread cost 9 cents. Gas was a mere 21 cents a gallon. These 22 followers of Jesus Christ. Members of the National Church of the Nazarene. They gathered. They were determined. They were delighted. They wanted to grow a church. The Oceanside Church of the Nazarene was born. Reverend Elbie D Green led this small group. Later Reverend Richard G Sales and Reverend Paul W Urschel followed.

By 1971 Oceanside’s population tripled. The congregation at Oceanside Nazarene tripled too. Reverend Richard S Miller. The church board. The congregation knew they needed more space. They needed to expand to share the good news. To dive deeper into God’s word. To love their neighbors. Their current space was too small.

They found a perfect location. 1400 Las Flores Drive Carlsbad. Two acres. An ocean view. It was purchased in 1973. The real work started. The congregation voted. They chose a new name. Las Flores Church of the Nazarene reflected their mission and vision.

Members gave everything. Time energy skilled and unskilled labor. Weekends and spare moments. Money too. They built the church. The original building remains. Expansions reflect the growth. The determination of those first 22 congregants. Seventy years later. Members and friends of Las Flores Church of the Nazarene are still dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

Their mission remains simple yet profound: To know the love of Christ and to make that love known. Their vision too remains unchanged. To study the Word. To be in prayer. To be an authentic community of believers. To make Christ’s love known. To engage in Christ’s mission worldwide.

Today Las Flores Church of the Nazarenes stands as a testament to faith perseverance and community. It’s a place to gather. To worship. To share the love of Christ. To know that you truly belong.
