Craving a hike away from Shenzhen’s hectic city feel? Then welcome to Lanjiaoji Peak. Before I moved to Shenzhen I never viewed it as a place for good hiking. Now, I know some of the best hiking is here. The mountains are not the tallest. However, there is a variety of different types of trails. A lot of convenient hikes are located within the city center.
Shenzhen’s mountains offer diverse trails. They range from paved paths to dirt tracks. The air is fresh. The views can be breathtaking. It is an absolute pleasure to explore the flora and fauna here.
One popular option is the Kunpeng Trail. It was recently recognized as one of China’s top 10 hiking destinations for 2024. It has swiftly become a hallmark of Shenzhen’s natural beauty. “Kunpeng” is derived from two mythical creatures. Kun is a colossal fish. Peng is also known as the Roc, a magnificent bird. Together they embody the spirit of exploration and adventure.
The Kunpeng Trail stretches across the city. It spans 20 segments. It connects major mountains. It links country parks and reservoirs. Cultural landmarks are dotted along the way. The trail winds through urban landscapes. It passes key development zones.
Hikers traverse lush forests. They explore serene coastlines. They follow meandering rivers and lakes. The trail is a sanctuary. It protects nearly 10000 species of plants and wildlife.
The Kunpeng Trail caters to all levels of hikers. Each section has entry and exit points. This allows hikers to tailor their routes. Gentle terrain marks the western segments. These are ideal for families. The central stretch offers more intricate landscapes. These challenge avid hikers. The eastern portion traverses rugged mountains. This requires advanced expertise. The trail is marked every 500 meters.
Another great option is Wutong Mountain. It is the tallest mountain in Shenzhen. It is located in Yantian. This is not too far from the bustling center of Shenzhen. Hiking Wutong Mountain gives you sweeping views. You’ll see the Yantian port and the sea. You’ll spot other hills and mountains rising in the distance. Wutong Mountain is an absolute wonder. It has lots of steps. Some dirt path options are also available.
Qiniangshan is another hike full of steps. The ascent is hard but pretty quick. You go up initially. Then it levels out. It provides you with very stunning views of the sea. You will also see the two nearby beaches.
Dapeng Coastal Hike from Dongchong to Xichong is beautiful. The hike gives you sweeping views of Shenzhen’s coastline. You’ll also see Hong Kong’s mountains. The deep blue sea stretches out before you. The hike is all dirt path and rock hopping. Some chains help you up and down.
Yangtaishan is a nice getaway. It is a lot easier to get to after Shenzhen extended its metro lines. It gives good views of Shenzhen’s tall buildings. It is very up and down.
Maluanshan offers excellent views. It has a variety of different types of paths. It is an absolute pleasure to explore. It includes a plum blossom farm. Go during late January or February.
Yinhushan is super centrally located. On a clear day you can see a beautiful skyline. You’ll spot downtown Futian. The rolling hills of Hong Kong are also visible.
Tanglang Mountain is easy to get to. It is more difficult than other centrally located mountains. It connects to Meilin. You can make the trek as long and as difficult as you’d like.
Lianhua Hill is in Futian. It is more a park than a mountain. It takes perhaps 30 minutes to get to the top. You can see the interestingly-built Civic Center. The Shenzhen downtown skyline is beautiful. There is a large sculpture of Deng Xiaoping. He is known as the father of Shenzhen. Lianhua is a must for anyone new to Shenzhen.
Nanshan is located close to Sea World in Shekou area. It is a great quick hike at night. You can see the Shenzhen night skyline.
Lanjiaoji Peak and its surrounding trails provide a perfect escape. They blend the excitement of city life with the tranquility of nature. So take a deep breath and enjoy the hike.
