Listen closely for the tale of Langkou Christian Church. Its story is one of resilience and faith. The introduction of Christianity in Shenzhen began in 1846. This was through the Basel Mission and Rhenish Missionary Society. They established 27 churches. These churches mainly were in Bao’an.

The old church was founded in 1898 in Luohu District. The Rhenish Missionary Society founded it. It was rebuilt in 1949. Then came a dark chapter. The Cultural Revolution began in 1966. The church became a government office. Church staff were sent home to work on farms. All church activities stopped.

But faith can weather any storm. On May 27 1984 the church reopened. This was after Deng Xiaoping returned to politics. In 1998 the Shenzhen government offered land for a new church. This land was in Meilin Huaguo Hill of Futian District.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 3 1999. Construction finished in August 2000. The Langkou Christian Church opened on December 9 2001. Local believers donated over ninety percent of the 30 million yuan cost. The church covers 8265 square meters. It stands 28 meters high.

Langkou Christian Church holds three Sunday services. One is at 9:00 am. Another is at 12:00 pm. The last one is at 7:30 pm. Weekday meetings happen at 7:30 am Tuesday through Saturday.
