Picture this. You stand before Landhaus Walter. This isn’t just any building. It’s a piece of Hamburg’s history. Built in 1914-1915 by the renowned architect Fritz Schumacher Landhaus Walter sits proudly in the southwestern part of Stadtpark.

Landhaus Walter is more than just a restaurant. It’s a testament to Hamburg’s rich past. It’s one of the few remaining structures designed by Schumacher. Originally part of a trio of eateries in the then “Volkspark” Stadtpark Landhaus Walter provided a haven for workers from Barmbek and Winterhude. They sought respite in the park’s sports fields green spaces and affordable restaurants.

Remarkably Landhaus Walter is the sole survivor of those four original restaurants after World War II. Its former market garden now thrives as a vibrant beer and coffee garden. Imagine the stories these walls could tell. The laughter the celebrations the quiet moments of reflection.

The building itself is a marvel. Its low profile and characteristic hipped roof covered in beavertail tiles capture the eye. The architecture exudes a rural charm with traditional features. Think bat dormers and casement windows with shutters. It’s a lovely blend of history and hospitality.

Since the 1970s Sprinkenhof GmbH has carefully managed Landhaus Walter. A significant renovation in recent years restored the building’s beauty. This included uncovering the original ceiling in the large hall. It now accommodates large events for up to 300 people. Smaller rooms have also been refurbished. The old parquet floors are polished and the walls are newly decorated. A new restaurant DEER is set to open in autumn 2024 promising an authentic and down-to-earth dining experience.

The 6000 square meter outdoor area has also undergone a complete transformation. Tons of gravel new tables benches chairs and fresh paint have completely revitalized the beer garden. Since Pentecost 2023 visitors have enjoyed its renewed charm.

Today Landhaus Walter remains a beloved destination. It hosts a variety of events. Live music weekends StadtParkWiesn Oktoberfest in the autumn and the enchanting StadtParkZauber Christmas market draw visitors of all ages. Landhaus Walter is more than a building. It’s a living piece of Hamburg’s cultural and gastronomic landscape. A place where history meets hospitality a place where memories are made.
