Who could forget a king’s visit? The Lancashire Fusiliers, Boer War Memorial certainly doesn’t. This bronze tribute to the “Cheering Fusilier” was unveiled by King Edward VII himself, alongside Queen Alexandra, on July 13, 1905, during a royal visit to Manchester. The Lancashire Fusiliers, Boer War Memorial stands proudly at the intersection of Chapel Street and Oldfield Road in Salford. It was sculpted by George Frampton. The memorial commemorates the Lancashire Fusiliers who fought and died in the Second Boer War. Time took its toll, but the memorial received a new lease on life in June 2012. Salford City Council oversaw a significant refurbishment. The project included new granite steps, ramps, and lighting. A new seating area was also added, inviting visitors to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by these soldiers.
