Twenty-seven thousand souls call Lambersart home. A Lille suburb nestled near the Deûle River. This is Lambersart.

Lambersart a town with a rich history stretching back to 1101. That year a donation was recorded of the altar of Lambersart. This was Lambert’s cleared woodland. The bishop of Tournai gave it to the Collegiate Church of Saint-Pierre in Lille. This marked Lambersart’s official beginning. Its independence from the nearby parish of Lomme followed in 1141. This was Lambersart’s own distinct identity.

The 13th century saw the construction of a canal linking Lille to La Bassée. This canal separated Lambersart from Wazemmes forever changing Lambersart’s landscape. In 1328 a chapel was built on the fief of La Motte de Lambersart. Jean de Raivenal gifted it to the Collegiate Church of Saint-Pierre. Three masses a week were celebrated in exchange. This is a key part of Lambersart’s religious heritage.

Lambersart’s population peaked at 29614 in 1975. It has slowly decreased since. The growth of Lille as a larger urban area impacted this decline. The city has also faced population changes. Development resulted in a loss of open land. Despite this Lambersart preserved its unique architectural heritage. Styles like the Touquet and Malo baths survived. The red brick style common to the Nord Pas-de-Calais region is also prevalent. One local street the Avenue de l’Hippodrome is considered Lambersart’s most beautiful. Many regionalist villas built for wealthy industrialists in the early 20th century line it. Lambersart’s charm even extends to its smaller streets. Many are charmingly called Avenues.

Lambersart’s municipal police station stands as a source of local pride. In Lambersart there is a television transmission tower. Although less powerful than Bondues’ tower it enabled residents to receive digital terrestrial television since March 31 2005. This is a key part of Lambersart’s modern infrastructure.

Lambersart boasts excellent transport links. Metro line 2 connects it to Lille Flandres station in under twenty minutes. Four bus lines also serve Lambersart providing convenient access to central Lille. The A25 motorway also provides rapid access to Lesquin Airport and other major French motorways. Lambersart is conveniently situated.

Lambersart’s twin towns are Viersen Germany since 1964 Southborough Kent United Kingdom since 1992 and Kaniv Ukraine. This showcases Lambersart’s international connections. Lambersart truly stands apart. This is more than a town. It is a vibrant community. It is a place with a story. A story of survival growth and unique identity. This is Lambersart.
